Realtors support shelter with garage sale

Penticton’s Royal LePage realtors will be joining their counterparts across Canada to create an oasis for bargain hunters during the National Garage Sale for Shelter in support of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.

Penticton’s Royal LePage realtors will be joining their counterparts across Canada to create an oasis for bargain hunters during the National Garage Sale for Shelter in support of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.

The event, set for Saturday, May 14 at the Penticton Curling Rink, brings local residents together with Royal LePage realtors to raise much-needed funds and awareness to help break the cycle of violence in their communities.  One hundred percent of all revenue generated by the Penticton Royal LePage garage sale goes to support Penticton’s local women’s shelter, South Okanagan Women In Need Society and fund long-term solutions to end family violence.

Penticton’s Royal LePage realtors are taking part in the event to help combat some alarming statistics: 51 per cent of women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16; and 360,000 children are exposed to domestic violence each year.

Last year Royal LePagers raised over $315,000, more than double the previous year — literally a quarter at a time.  The community is encouraged to take part again this year by donating gently used items at the Penticton Curling Rink between May 9 and 13 from 4 to 7 p.m., and taking part in the  May 14 event.

The Royal LePage Shelter Foundation is Canada’s largest public foundation dedicated exclusively to supporting shelters and ending violence against women and children.

Through agent commission contributions and the fundraising activities of the Royal LePage network, we have raised over $10 million to help to provide a safe haven and new beginnings to more than 30,000 women and children each year.
