Robbie Burns supper celebrates 260th birthday of the Ploughman Poet

Penticton Scottish Festival Society hosts annual celebration

The Penticton Lakeside was filled with the sound of bagpipes and the smell of piping hot haggis for the Penticton Scottish Festival’s Robbie Burns Supper.

“While he left us in the mortal sense,” said Graham Watt during his delivery of the Immortal Memory to Robbie Burns. “He remained among us in the immortal. There is no greater proof of this than that after all these years after his birth there are gatherings for him across Scotland and the Commonwealth. He is celebrated all over the world, by people like us, are remembering Robbie Burns and his work.”

The night celebrated the 260th birthday of the Scottish Bard, with highland dancing, performances from the Vale United Pipe Band, Celtic banjo and recitations of some of Burns’ poems and songs, including the Address to the Haggis. Over 240 guests attended the fifth year of the party in Penticton.
