Penticton residents can shred it and forget it.

Sensitive documents hit the shredders in downtown Penticton on Saturday.

Recognizing Fraud Prevention Month, Valley First partnered with Okanagan Paper Shredding, the Downtown Penticton Association and the Penticton RCMP to host an event inviting all to come down and shred their documents and learn about fraud awareness.

"Identiity theft continues to be a big concern and being proactive in shredding your confidential documents is one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect yourself," Jamie Lord, supervisor of corporate security at Valley First said.

"At Valley First, we're committed to making a meaningful difference in the financial lives of our members and in our local communities, so we're thrilled to be able to work with such great community partners to offer this service."

Valley First also accepted food and cash donations for Feed the Valley, their signature community program designed to raise food, funds and awareness for local food banks. Through this program, Valley First has committed to raising at leas $1 million for local food banks over the next ten years. Feed the Valley donations have surpassed the $900,000 mark.

"The Downtown Penticton Association is looking forward to hosting this important community shredding event in support of Feed the Valley," Kerri Milton, executive director of the DPA, said. "Our partnership with Valley First, the Penticton RCMP and Okanagan Paper Shredding offers Penticton residents a great opportunity to shred their private documentation safely and securely, while supporting a worthy cause—all of which is positive for our community."
