This was the purring package SPCA staff found upon opening the Penticton shelter today.

The local SPCA is looking for help identifying the owner of a cat that was left in a box outside the Penticton shelter.

Staff found the young female cat when the facility opened today at noon.

“Looks like she was dumped at the door and a note written on the box,” South Okanagan-Similkameen branch manager Corinne Ross said in an email.

“She obviously got out of the box and was lucky enough to run inside the shelter and not in the other direction onto the busy street.”

The SPCA would like to speak to anyone who knows the cat or her former owner to find out about the feline's history and remind the person it's unacceptable to leave an animal in a box anywhere.

Ross said the cat won't be available for adoption at least until the four-day hold for strays passes, and it may be longer if the animal needs to be spayed.
