Tipping fees at area landfills went up on May 1.
New rates are in effect at the Campbell Mountain, Oliver and Okanagan Falls facilities, all of which are operated by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen.
RDOS directors agreed to the fee increases to offset a decrease in revenue that has resulted from increased diversion of waste to recycling programs.
The following waste categories have now increased: regular garbage is now $72 per tonne, from $65; asphalt shingles, concrete and masonry are now $50 per tonne, from $15; gypsum is now $105 tonne, from $75.
