A small group of volunteers are devoting their Thanksgiving day to ensuring those in need get a dinner with all the fixings.
Chris Grauer, lead chef for the Penticton Soupateria volunteers, said the volunteers have been working hard since Saturday preparing eight turkeys to ensure an estimated 130 people who will drop in get a proper Thanksgiving meal.
For 24 of the 25 years he has volunteered at the Soupateria, Grauer has taken on the task of feeding those in need on Thanksgiving.
“At one time we used the soup kitchen in the basement of the Anglican Church. A much smaller place and sometimes we would have 30 people. It is so different now. I estimate we will have 130 people here for dinner and they are very thankful that we are having a Thanksgiving dinner,” said Grauer.

And what about a Thanksgiving meal for those who are busy helping Grauer get the food ready?
“Well, for those that work hard,” he joked.
