A new administrator and a new president are on tap for the Penticton Arts Council.
Bethany Handfield has taken on the role of administrator for the council after Diane Michaud left the non-profit organization to work with an internationally combined construction project in northern B.C.
Handfield brings a “wealth of knowledge and many years of experience working in not-for-profit organizations,” said a press release written by former president of the arts council Timothy Tweed.
“Her skills with grant writing, fundraising and event planning, as well as her love and knowledge of the local creative community make her an ideal candidate for our new administrator. Her deep roots in the arts, as well as her talents as a multi-disciplinary artist will benefit the arts council greatly.”

Because Handfield and Timothy Tweed, the former president have shared a long-term personal relationship, Tweed decided to step down as president. Tweed will continue on with the board in a director position.
“In order to avoid any potential appearance of favouritism or conflict-of-interest, I recused myself from any hiring decisions made in regards to the administrator’s position. Also, to ensure that there are no perceived conflicts-of-interest between board president and society administrator, I am voluntarily stepping down as the president of the arts council board, effective immediately,” the press release stated.
Current board vice-president, Brad Hillis, has taken over the role of president.
