Recently on the news, I heard about a plan afoot to change the speed limit on side streets from 50 kilometres (per hour) to 30 km.
What a complete waste of taxpayers’ money.
Apparently, this is to start in Vancouver, but other municipalities have been warned that this will likely spread to other cities.
Because of my experience with the city, I can tell you these signs are not cheap. Replacing one sign (if you add in labour) is about $100.
Now let’s say, for the sake of this argument, that there will be 100,000 signs to replace, costing $100 each. That is $10 million that could go towards eradicating homelessness in this province.
I really hope that John Horgan and the NDP don’t expect the individual municipalities to foot the bill for this. Penticton is having a difficult enough time as it is. This is something we cannot afford.
I don’t know who came up with this cockamamie idea, but they should be fired. It serves no purpose and the difference in the number of accidents and injuries will be negligible.
Use that money where it is needed more. Good Lord. When will the stupidity end?
