Dear editor:

“Alone we can do so little; Together we can do so much” – Helen Keller

The Salvation Army 2023 Kettle Campaign will kick off on Monday, Nov. 13. Again, this year will look different than 2022.

The economy continues to deteriorate due to high interest rates, high cost of housing, high cost of gas and high cost of groceries.

The Salvation Army Food Bank is needed now more than ever.

The red Salvation Army Kettle stands and donation collection kettles you’ll see in various locations throughout the city will raise most of the annual budget for the food bank and family services.

All funds raised stay in our community and are used to support programs and services for those struggling with food security.

We also distribute more than 500 hampers every month to needy individuals and families in addition to 2000+ people accessing the food bank every month.

Last year, the Kettle Campaign raised $120,000, just short of our goal of $160,000.

But that will not deter us from aiming for the same goal this year, $160,000, and we know that with your help we can do it!

Can you help us by volunteering at a kettle this Christmas? The shifts are two hours and training is provided. You can pick your own hours and locations.

The kettles are in place at the usual Penticton locations – Walmart 1,Walmart 2, London Drugs, Save-On- Foods, Superstore and Safeway starting Dec. 1.

We will also have three out of town kettle donation locations in Summerland, Osoyoos and Keremeos. Please contact me for more information mary.macarthur@salvationarmy.ca.
