Letter: Too many going without

The problem of poverty needs to be fixed fast

Yes it is shameful – kids going hungry. They go to school hungry, sad but true. Then you have the seniors and the disabled that, no matter how hard they try, they can not make ends meet.

Yes, the rates have to go up for the disabled and seniors, inflation has gone up so much.

Right now it is ‘Do I turn the heat on for a bit or eat?’ and it is not funny. There are a lot of seniors that will not say how hard it is on them, it might be pride but I do not know.

With me, my parents paid taxes all their lives, and never took back anything.

Then I come along, sure I have a disability and am not so young anymore, and you would think that the government would see that they have enough.

And lots of people do not have anyone to help them when things get tough. For myself, I hate to ask.

This problem has to be fixed and fast, as with the kids going without, there is no need for that.

B.C. is a rich province, but like all things it is budget. The first thing should be to help those in need, but then we buy a pipeline which is what we did not need and is a waste of money. Lots of young students just get by or do not make it unless they can take out a big loan and that should not be the case.
