KVR Jazz band has strong showing at festival

The KVR Middle School jazz bands, under the direction of Stan Sabourin, had a good showing at this year’s B.C. Interior Jazz Festival.

The KVR Middle School jazz bands, under the direction of Stan Sabourin, had a good showing at this year’s B.C. Interior Jazz Festival on April 11.

The 35-member KVR Jazz Express big band (Grades 7 and 8) received a silver rating and the six member One-Wya Street jazz combo received a gold rating, an invitation to perform at the festival awards ceremony and an invitation to the national competition.

Sam Lasinkis, the pianist for One-Way Street, won the Most Outstanding Junior Combo Soloist award.

One-Way Street includes Cassandra Bruce (bass), Jaelinn Farmer (drums), Georgia Stel (clarinet), Spencer Pickard (sax), Lasinski (piano) and Joseph Traynor (trombone).
