Here’s what’s happening this weekend in Penticton

The first weekend of May is expected to bring 20 C temperatures to Penticton, and there’s no shortage of things to do and see in the city.

Here’s what’s happening from May 3 to 5:

Vees welcome Silverbacks for Round 3 (May 3)

The second game of the Vees’ third-round series with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks is on Friday night at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Salmon Arms leads the series 1-0, after blanking the Vees on Thursday night.

Penticton and Salmon Arm will play the series’ third and fourth games in the Shuswap on May 6 and 8.

Puck drop on Friday at the SOEC is at 7 p.m.

Seniors’ Drop-In Centre’s ‘Happy Gang Jamboree’ (May 4)

The one-day annual event will bring 120 line dancers from across the region to Penticton on Saturday.

Dancers can be seen performing at Drop-In Centre, 2965 South Main St., starting at 9 a.m.

Observers are welcome to watch.

The Okanagan-wide line dancers were previously seen at the Penticton Peach Festival in 2023.

Mela Festival (May 4)

A free event that celebrates Punjabi heritage and culture comes to Gyro Park on Saturday.

Food and drinks from local vendors, as well as poetry performances and kids-themed activities, will be featured.

Event runs from noon to 5 p.m.

Foreigner brings Farewell Canada Tour to Penticton (May 4)

Classic rock icons Foreigner will grace the South Okanagan Events Centre stage on Saturday night.

Expect to hear the group’s greatest hits, including Jukebox Hero and Cold as Ice, as the British-American band gears up for its final shows in Canada.

The show starts at 7 p.m.

Red Dress Day in Penticton (May 5)

Red Dress Day will be recognized in Penticton along Lakeshore Drive on Sunday, starting at 1 p.m.

The Ooknakane Friendship Centre, South Okanagan Similkameen Metis Association, Penticton Indian Band, and City of Penticton called on the community ahead of the walk to support the MMIWG (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls) cause by donating red dresses.

Gathering and sign-making will be at 1 p.m., while a walk will begin at the S.S. Sicamous at 1:30 p.m.

Okanagan Symphony Youth Orchestra (May 5)

The Okanagan Symphony Youth Orchestra brings its annual spring concert to Penticton’s Cleland Theatre on Sunday.

Show runs from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at okanagansymphony.com.

Bran Sanders at Cannery Brewing (May 5)

Folk musician Bran Sanders will play at Cannery Brewing on Sunday night.

Show runs from 5 to 7 p.m., and there is no cover charge.
