Thanks to some new upgrades, a Penticton dog park looks different today than it did in February.

Renovations are now complete at Ellis Creek Dog Park, city officials said Tuesday, April 30.

Dog owners are invited to bring back their pets to the off-leash space, located at 100 Industrial Place. It had been under construction since the winter.

“Improvements include engineered wood fibre surfacing, walkways, a shade structure over a sitting area, and a dog activity zone,” the city said.

Trees will be added to the space later this spring, they added.

Other park-related upgrades around the city include improved access to 3-Mile South Beach and Skaha Lake Dog Park, which also now have newly planted trees.

Since March 1, Penticton has been testing its “leash-optional” program, which invites residents to bring their dogs to five new designated off-leash spots. The new spaces can be found at Riverside Park, Okanagan Lake Park, Skaha Main, Skaha Park East and at 1900 Penticton Avenue.

The pilot project runs until Aug. 31.
