As construction work continues on the south end of Penticton, city officials are reminding the public that nearby businesses are open as usual.

Roadwork will carry on for the next few months along sections of Skaha Lake Road, Main Street, South Main Street and Kinney Avenue, according to the city.

Work to this point has been in the area of Skaha Lake Road and Galt Avenue, which is located in front of the Barley Mill Brew Pub.

Crews’ focus, however, will shift in the coming weeks toward Kinney Avenue, South Main Street and a southern section of Main Street.

The work is part of the $10.5 million Point Intersection group of projects, which is designed to address traffic congestion and safety issues. A bike lane along Kinney Avenue is also included in the plan.

“We know this work is disruptive and we encourage all residents to continue to support the local businesses in this area,” the city said in a social media post, adding that all roadwork is on schedule.

The Point Intersection group of projects was approved by council April 2023, despite coming in $3 million over budget.

Work is expected to be completed in late 2024.

Typical construction times for the project are from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

“Access to the businesses will be available as usual for vehicles travelling southbound on Skaha Lake Road,” the city said.

“If travelling northbound, watch for on-site signage and follow the detours to access the businesses from the southbound lane.”
