The wine community and residents of Summerland are mourning the loss of a husband and father of two young children killed in a crash on Highway 97 in Kaleden on Friday, Dec. 8.

Rust Wine, based out of Oliver, posted on social media to say they are “devastated to announce the passing of our beloved friend and general manager Kane Morgan.”

Morgan, 37, leaves behind his wife and their two young boys and their family farm and vineyard in Summerland.

“It’s our familial duty at this time to support Kane’s family and work to carry on his legacy,” said Rust Wine in their post.

Morgan was on his way home from work Friday when he was killed in a two-vehicle collision that shut down Highway 97 in Kaleden for several hours on Friday, Dec. 8.

At approximately 5:17 p.m., Penticton RCMP were called to the crash at Highway 97 near Lakehill Road in Kaleden.

The collision involved an orange Honda Fit and a black Hyundai Santa Fe. BC Highway Patrol is investigating and looking for dash cam video from the time of the tragedy. Contact BCHP Keremeos at 250-499-2250 if you have video.

The Summerland community is also coming together to support Morgan’s family and help with the farm. A Gofundme has been started by Morgan’s sister-in-law and has already raised nearly $5,000 of its $10,000 goal. The Gofundme can be found here.

“Anyone who had the privilege of knowing him would have experienced his unbounded hospitality, sincerity and humour. They would have understood immediately that he was not a common man. Kane was a truly exceptional person in every facet of his life, from his superb intellect and way with words, to his dedication to his family both immediate and extended,” said Rust Wine.

Anyone who has been impacted by Kane in even the smallest way is invited to offer their condolences and support by visiting the Rust Wine website ‘Honouring Kane Morgan’.

They will be collecting donations for the Morgan family through their sister winery Mt. Boucherie Estate Winery. The website to contribute can be found here.
