A pair of townhomes could soon be built near Penticton’s Government Street.

City council will review a plan on May 7, that calls for the construction of two four-unit townhomes at 795 Ontario Street.

A total of eight units are included in the proposed development, which would be located near Penticton Creek and surrounding apartments, duplexes and single-family homes along Forestbrook Drive and Government Street.

Council will be asked to give the project its first three readings or deem that the proposed rezoning is “not suitable” for the site. The applicant has asked to rezone the property from Small Lot Residential to Low-Density Multiple Housing.

There will be no public hearing, as the B.C. government has recently passed legislation prohibiting municipalities from holding such gatherings when the development is aligned with the Official Community Plan.

The property in question is located on the west side of Ontario Street and currently contains a single-family home built in the 1960s. It also features two accessory buildings at the back.

It is located about 800 metres from KVR Middle School and less than two kilometres away from the intersection of Wade Avenue and Ellis Street in downtown Penticton.

A total of 10 parking spaces are included in the plan.
