Penticton RCMP have arrested a man in connection to a suspected arson that destroyed a downtown home’s attached garage on Aug. 30.

As a result of numerous tips from the public, a suspect was arrested on Sept. 18, said Penticton RCMP Const. James Grandy. The suspect was later released and is expected to appear in Penticton Provincial Court on Oct. 28. Charges have not been laid.

On Sept. 16, police released surveillance footage of a suspect in the fire. Police said the public’s help led to his quick arrest two days later.

The fire started at 8 a.m. on the outside of an attached garage of a home at 686 Martin Street on Aug. 30.

The attached garage had apparently been set on fire, destroying it, and all its contents, said Grandy in a press release. There were people inside the residence at the time, however no one was injured.
