A wanted man allegedly firing a rifle outside a residence was the cause of Highway 3 closure near Hedley on Nov. 25.

The man was outside of a home, but due to the proximity to the highway, Princeton RCMP made the decision to close the road until the situation was dealt with.

Reports of the potential gunfire were called in around 6 p.m., and the highway was not reopened for several hours.

The 30-year-old man was identified by officers on multiple warrants, as well as a court order banning him from being at the residence.

The Southeast District Emergency Response Team helped Princeton RCMP bring the man safely into custody, where he awaits a court appearance.

The man faces multiple firearm offences, according to the RCMP.
