A USA Hockey standout who led his Minnesota high school to back-to-back national championships is coming to Penticton.
Jack Potulny, 18, has committed to the Penticton Vees for the 2024-2025 season, the team announced.
The forward is the son of Northern Michigan University head coach Grant Potulny and nephew of Ryan Potulny, who played for the Edmonton Oilers from 2008 to 2010.
“We have had success in the past with NCAA coach’s sons,” said Fred Harbinson, the Vees’ head coach, general manager and president. “Jack is a player who has learned to win and will fit in to how we want to play in Penticton.”
The Vees commit spent the past three years at the prestigious Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Faribault, Minnesota. He most recently helped his school win the USA Hockey Youth Tier 1 Under 18 championships in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Potulny, who tallied 140 points in 108 games over the last two seasons, also led Shattuck-St. Mary’s to the 2023 High School Prep National Championship in Plymouth, Minnesota.
After his time in the BCHL comes to an end, the Maple Grove, Minnesota product is committed to the University of St. Thomas in his home state.
This season’s Vees are off until next weekend, as they wait and see who their next opponent will be in the second round of the BCHL Playoffs.
Penticton completed a four-game sweep of the Prince George Spruce Kings on Wednesday, April 11.
