Kimco has been putting their employees first for 38 years and has no intention of stopping. Founded in Kelowna with regional offices in Penticton and Cranbrook, the HVAC, Automation, and Electrical system’s company has made interior B.C. their family tree.
With three owners who started as employees themselves, this family-first company understands their employees’ needs — from diversifying your skill set to making sure you don’t miss your daughter’s recital.
“We really want to make sure that we have a great and happy team. That’s what they put out there, they’re meeting the clients. The team is the people,” says Owner and Head Manager, Electrical and Integration Management, Ken Watt, who started working at the company as an employee 18 years ago. Ken first wanted to work at Kimco for the diversity of services and trades offered, like HVAC and automation systems.
That diversity is still drawing new hires today. “Kimco gave me the opportunity not only to have a job, but to build on my career goals,” says Pawel Gora, a new employee with Kimco. Working with Kimco gave Pawel a chance to move his family from the lower mainland to the Okanagan while working in an industry that he’s passionate about.
Joining Kimco has been a “life-changing” opportunity, he says. “(They have) an amazing balance of work and family while being very professional, something that is lost in so many companies these days.”
For Greg Davies, another new member of the Kimco family, the company’s authenticity really shines through. “They value their people and show it in their management style and really emphasize family first,” says Greg. “It’s a fun, positive environment with a common goal of keeping our customers happy and growing the business. All three of the owners are really good guys that listen to their people and would help you out where they can. It’s a great team to be part of.”
Personal and Professional Growth
While welcoming new employees, the culture that Kimco has fostered — including family first, great benefits and promoting from within — also helps retain employees for the long run.
“I love the culture of Kimco,” says Chris Howard, who has been with the company for 23 years. “The values around family are very important to me. They have been key to my development in my skills in electrical, controls and HVAC along with my own personal growth.”
