Thanks to their neighbours, the occupants of a mobile home in Keremeos were woken up and escaped after it caught fire.
The fire on 10th Avenue in Keremeos was reported shortly after 4 a.m. with two vehicles and a shed in flames.
Neighbours were awoken by the sound of the fire, and ran across the road to wake up the occupants, said Keremeos Fire Chief Jordy Bosscha.
One of the occupants collapsed on their way out of the home, and another pair of neighbours lept into action to help carry them from the doorway to safety.
Within 16 minutes the first fire truck arrived on scene to find the fire had spread into the home.
In total, it took 14 firefighters in two engines and two support vehicles to extinguish the blaze.
No other structures were threatened by the fire, but it marks the fourth mobile home fire in the area since December.
The occupants of the mobile home were checked on by BC Emergency Health Services.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Keremeos Fire Department expressed their thanks to BC EHS, Fortis, Dutchies Transfer and Keremeos Emergency Support Services for their quick response.
