On Friday, June 17 around 2:30 p.m. heavy black smoke was seen towards Kaleden.
Upon arrival Kaleden Volunteer Fire fighters where on scene with three apparatus battling the fire before two B.C. Wildfire Management crews arrived to assist. Witnesses said a junk yard with tires and other items caught fire and it jumped to the dry brush in the surrounding area.
Tankers where called in to drop retardant on the steep slopes around fire so it didn't cause any trouble.
