The man accused of the brutal attack on a Penticton woman is facing a host of new charges.
Investigators with the Penticton RCMP General Investigation Section have been successful in obtaining charge approval on a total of eight separate counts against accused David Wesley Bobbitt, the man arrested for the July 31 unlawful confinement and aggravated sexual assault on a 22-year-old Penticton woman.
Police recently forwarded their current investigational findings to Penticton Crown counsel, and on Thursday the Crown approved and laid eight separate counts against Bobbitt.
Bobbitt is now facing charges of attempt to commit murder of the 22-year-old woman; two counts of unlawful confinement for confining the woman and her 22-month-old son ; aggravated sexual assault of the woman; uttering a threat to cause death or bodily harm to the woman; uttering a threat to the woman to cause death or bodily harm to her son; robbery of the 22-year-old woman; and assault with a weapon (a wooden stick) of the 22-year-old woman.
“We do need to identify anyone who had contact with Bobbitt after the incident," said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk. "We are looking to speak to a woman who may have picked Bobbitt up on Highway 97 near the Penticton airport and dropped him off at the Kaleden weigh scales on July 31 during the day. Police need to speak to the woman who picked Bobbitt and who made the comment to him, 'You look like you need a ride.'"
RCMP investigators are continuing their investigation, including the establishment of a detailed and accurate time line of Bobbitt’s whereabouts and contacts, from the time it is believed that he fled his store on July 31 to the day he was captured south of Oliver along Highway 97 on Aug. 3.
