Ross Derrick has made a name for himself in Kelowna, owning Broken Anchor and the Globe at Big White.

This June, the restaurateur will be taking on a new venture opening a steakhouse in the old Raudz location.

Derrick opened Broken Anchor to have more authority over his own schedule while being a single dad, but his dream was always for a steakhouse.

“I’ve been wanting to do this since I was 16,” Derrick said. “It’s always been in the back of my mind and we just had the timing be right.”

The location on Water Street is undergoing minor renovations with plans to open mid-June.

Derrick’s Steakhouse is expected to be a place where you can go to mark all the highs and lows of life.

“We want to be classic, old school service, a place that’s known for hospitality when you come through the door.”

Derrick said he wants the restaurant to be a place people can come for birthdays, divorces, anniversaries, funerals, first dates, and Mondays just because.

“A memory is a memory and we want to be the place… like, where else are you going to go?”
