The Glen Lake wildfire in Peachland is being held.
After igniting on Saturday, Sept. 16 and burning out of control for 10 days, the fire is now being held, which means the blaze is unlikely to spread under the predetermined boundaries and current conditions. It is also no longer a wildfire of note in the province.
The blaze reached 1,116.2 hectares in size and was human-caused.
On Monday, Central Okanagan Emergency Operations rescinded all evacuation alerts and downgraded evacuation orders to alerts for the eight properties affected. This means the residents from the eight properties can return home but must keep a go-bag ready just in case.
Additionally, structural protection crews are starting to demobilize equipment as it is no longer needed.
Crews are continuing to tackle the fire. At the northeast corner, crews are directly attacking the blaze and tying together a 50- foot containment line from Billie Road to Finlay Creek.
At the southeast flank, crews are directly attacking the fire from the Munro FSR towards Eneas Lakes Park. Heavy equipment control lines are also in place. Helicopters continue to be at the ready if needed.
On Tuesday, there is a 30-60 per cent chance of showers but also a risk of a thunderstorm.
