A proposed five-storey development on Penticton’s Martin Street has cleared its first hurdle with city council and now the public is invited to have its say on the project.
A city-led engagement program for the proposed construction of a mixed-use development on 674 and 686 Martin Street is officially underway, following council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Residents are invited to complete the survey here, pertaining to the development that would feature 1,180 square feet of commercial space on the ground level, a common amenity area on the fifth floor and 18 residential units in between.
“This development proposal would bring commercial opportunities and provide residential units close to existing downtown amenities,” said Audrey Tanguay, the city’s planning and licensing manager.
An amendment to the city’s Official Community Plan (OCP) is required to change the land use designation on the proposed site, from “urban residential” to “downtown mixed-use.”
A similar development in the area already exists, a four-storey, mixed-use building at 650 Martin Street.
Proposed construction for the new development is directly in front of Penticton’s lake-to-lake bike lane.
Along with survey completion, anyone interested in discussing the proposal with city staff is invited to attend an online information session on Feb. 23, from 6 to 7 p.m. Registration can be found here.
City staff will collect feedback on the project until March 9.
