A three vehicle collision stalled traffic for over an hour just north of Summerland on Wednesday morning.
RCMP said the collision on Highway 97, approximately one kilometre south of Callan Road, took place at 7:55 a.m. and sent two people to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
It started when a 2008 Honda driven southbound by a 59-year-old woman from Peachland pulled onto the shoulder because of a flat tire. While the driver was stopped waiting for a town truck a 1997 Honda, also southbound, driven by a 59-year-old male from Vernon did not see the vehicle stopped and collided with it.
A third vehicle driving southbound, 1997 GMC pickup driven by a 49-year-old male from West Kelowna, attempted to avoid the initial collision but was unsuccessful and collided with the two Hondas.
"This caused the pickup to cross into the northbound lanes and flip onto it's side," said Cpl. Bruce Haley of the Summerland RCMP.
Mounties said the driver of the first Honda had to be removed from her vehicle by the Jaws of Life. Both drivers of the HOndas were transported by ambulance to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The highway was closed for approximately one hour to allow for medical treatment, investigation and the removal of the vehicles. RCMP are continuing their investigation of the collision.
