Due to extreme line-ups at the Campbell Mountain Landfill, the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen, is advising Penticton and Kaleden residents to bring yard waste and other recyclables to the Okanagan Falls Landfill.

“We are seeing 20 to 30 minute line-ups at the Campbell Mountain Landfill on weekdays,” said Don Hamilton, RDOS solid waste facilities co-ordinator in a news release. “Many of the vehicles are bringing up small volumes of yard waste to the landfill. This is blocking traffic along Reservoir Road.”

The Okanagan Falls Landfill is accessible from Eastside Road by turning on McLean Creek Road.

“From Penticton, the drive to the Okanagan Falls Landfill is beautiful and residents will not have to wait in line-ups,” said Hamilton. “Residents are encouraged to use their curbside collection program for yard waste as much as possible.”

The Okanagan Falls Landfill is located on Allendale Lake Road to the east of Okanagan Falls. The hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. from Monday to Saturday.

The Okanagan Falls Landfill cannot take garbage that contains food waste but can accept sorted metal items, electronics, tires, furniture, mattresses and cardboard.

For more information on landfill hours, contact the RDOS Public Works Department at 250-490-4129, info@rdos.bc.ca or visit www.rdos.bc.ca.
