Driving the wrong way on a one-way street into the path of a marked police car is not smart at the best of times and being impaired only makes things worse.

Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth was northbound (proper direction) on Main Street about 10 a.m. Aug. 11 when a vehicle turned right off Nanaimo Avenue heading southbound.

After several people on the street started yelling at the driver he stopped and proceeded to back up onto Nanaimo and stopped in a parking lot on the north side of the street.

Wrigglesworth said he could smell alcohol when he approached the car and the male was given a breathalyzer test which he failed.

The car was subsequently impounded for 30 days and the driver, believed to be in his 40’s from Barrier, was given a 90-day driving prohibition.
