People interested in a career as a correctional officer at the new Okanagan jail are encouraged to sign up for information sessions in three communities this fall.
Events in Penticton, Oliver and Osoyoos will provide an overview of the job and prepare candidates for the application process, according to a press release from the B.C. government.
Two-hour orientation sessions will explain key aspects of a correctional worker’s duties, while longer readiness sessions will span two full days or four consecutive evenings and focus on the justice system, a correctional officer’s role in it and details of the application process.
All sessions are being staged by B.C. Corrections in partnership with the Justice Institute of B.C. The 378-cell jail just north of Oliver is expected to require 240 correctional officers, many of whom will be new hires, when it opens in 2016. To register for the information sessions call 604-462-5170 or email recruiter.occ@gov.bc.ca with REGISTER in the subject line and contact information and session date preferences in the body.
