A 43-year-old woman was airlifted by long line extrication from a section of the Skaha Bluffs climbing area known as the Red Tail zone after an accident Friday.
The woman suffered undetermined injuries in the incident and the assistance of Penticton and District Search and Rescue (PENSAR) was requested by the B.C. Ambulance Service to remove her.
According to PENSAR spokesman Randy Brown, 14 rescuers were called out with 12 responding to the scene and two members of the helicopter external transport team (HETS) going to Penticton Regional Airport to ready the Eclipse Helicopter.
The PENSAR ground team, with the assistance of about a dozen climbing enthusiasts, made their way over the treacherous terrain with the necessary medical supplies to stabilize the victim and prepare to be taken out.
The HETS member was lowered to the site at about 7:40 p.m. and by 8 p.m. the woman was being airlifted to the bluffs parking where the ambulance was waiting.
