An all-way (four-way) stop control is being implemented by the City of Penticton at the intersection of Dartmouth Road and Okanagan Avenue East.
According to a news release from the city, the decision to install the all-way stop is based on council-endorsed recommendations brought forward from the city’s Transportation Safety Committee and traffic engineering consultant.
“The volumes were getting to a point where we need a little more control,” said Tyler Figgit, engineering services design supervisor for the city. He explained it should allow the traffic to move better, and discourage risky decisions.
“There are some issues with speed and there are some fairly large trucks using it,” said Figgit. “We just wanted to bring the level of safety up.”
The change is scheduled to take place by noon on Oct. 26, and drivers are reminded to use caution around the intersection as people adjust to the new configuration.
