The next reign of local leaders are expected to be named Saturday night, as the Penticton 2022 municipal election gets underway.
The City of Penticton will be voting for one mayor out of a field of five, and for six councillors of a field of 16.
Incumbent Mayor John Vassilaki is running for re-election, and facing a challenge from Coun. Julius Bloomfield, Penticton resident Owen Hayward, local businessman Corey Hounslow and community activist Jason Reynen.
Polls are open in Penticton from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.

What happens once polls close?
After 8 p.m. local time, election officials will begin counting and tallying the ballots.
Penticton residents will be able to see the tally in person at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, where a number of candidates will be waiting for the results, and also online.
