The man accused of a 2022 murder involving a body that was left in Okanagan Lake has now applied to be released on bail.
Wyne Zablan was charged with first-degree murder after a man named Fung Sheng Lau was found dead in Okanagan Lake near the Shelter Bay Marina on July 29, 2022.
After Lau’s body was found, the RCMP asked for the public’s assistance in identifying the victim. Police described the victim as a man of Asian ethnicity, between 20-40 years old and of average height.
Zablan was arrested shortly after Lau was found dead and has remained in custody since.
Details involving the incident that transpired surrounding Lau’s death are protected under publication bans and cannot be published.
However, RCMP previously told the public that a vehicle was used in the incident that resulted in Lau’s death.
Zablan attended his bail hearing in person on April 8. He wore a red sweat suit from the Okanagan Correctional Facility and has black hair and a full beard.
Justice Betton told the court that he will enter his decision on Zablan’s application for bail on April 11.
Zablan’s case will be tried by a jury. The trial is scheduled to begin on Jan. 20, 2025, in a Kelowna B.C. Supreme courtroom.
