A Penticton man quickly pleaded guilty after leading police on a foot chase in his underwear Monday morning.

Nigel Ernest Laforme, 24, pleaded guilty to lesser or included offences related to charges of breaking and entering and willfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer after fleeing police around 9:40 a.m. Monday.

Police said Laforme jumped out the back window of his residence in little more than his underwear when they arrived to arrest him on warrants for breaching probation conditions. The chase ensued in the area around Huth Avenue and Fairview Road while police received multiple reports of a man running through property in the area.

Police swarmed the area and reported that Laforme broke into a senior couple’s home during the chase, but was eventually taken into custody by the RCMP’s Targeted Enforcment Unit. The man was transported to Penticton Regional Hospital for minor injuries received running barefoot through the neighbourhood. A pre-sentence report was ordered Tuesday in Penticton Provincial Court. Laforme is due back in court July 20.
