Convicted murderer Keith Wiens has launched an official  complaint against a Crown counsellor.

In 2012, Wiens was found guilty of second-degree murder of his common-law spouse, Lynn Kalmring, in their Penticton home. He was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 13 years.

Wiens appeared at Penticton provincial court Tuesday via video from Kent Institution for a breach of conditions charge, stemming from an alleged incident while he was on bail in 2012. He told the court his intentions to file a violation of his Charter of Rights, that Crown counsel John Swanson should be removed from handling the breach of conditions charge and he has filed an official complaint.

The B.C. Law Society confirmed a complaint against Swanson was made in April.

Last summer Wiens filed an appeal to the second-degree murder charge, claiming his sentence is “excessive” among other things. That matter is still before the Court of Appeal.
