After a brief delay due to fire danger and provincial restrictions, open burning season is now in effect within five Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen areas.
Open burning season runs until April 15, 2023, in the fire protection areas of Anarchist Mountain, Kaleden, Naramata, Okanagan Falls, and Willowbrook.
Apex and the village of Keremeos are not part of the open-burning bylaw.
Due to drier conditions last month, open burning season’s initial start of Oct. 15 was pushed back until today.
Residents within the five RDOS-protected areas are required to complete a burn authorization application form.
Though campfires are permitted, Willowbrook’s fire chief Tony Iannella says that they must be safeguarded.
People are asked to contact their local fire chief for more information about open burning season within the five aforementioned areas.
