With high-priority routes now clear of snow, Penticton road crews have now shifted into maintenance mode following this week’s storms, according to the city.

After days of snowfall and below-zero temperatures, crews say they are now tackling ice buildup while responding to issues reported by the public.

“The roughly 40 transit shelters throughout the city have been shovelled, and crews are focusing additional attention on clearing snow from street-side parking spots and bus stop pull-in lanes,” the city says in a press release.

Now that high-priority roads have cleared, they added, crews have started work on third-priority areas including residential streets, industrial side streets and lanes.

“In regards to clearing city bike lanes, residents are reminded that the equipment and operators that are used to clear the Lake-to-Lake Bike Route are not the same as used on roadways,” the notice reads.

Daytime temperatures in Penticton are expected to remain below zero throughout the weekend, according to Environment Canada. With the wind chill on Saturday, temperatures could hit as low as -9 C.

For next Wednesday, Nov. 16, there is a 60 per cent chance of flurries.

“With temperatures expected to remain low in the coming days, residents are reminded to be prepared for winter driving conditions and slow down on the roads in anticipation of icy patches,” the city says.
