Police are searching for the person responsible for a motor vehicle accident early Thursday morning that knocked out power for over 1,000 people. (submitted photo)

Penticton Western News previously reported on a single motor vehicle crash shortly after 2 a.m. this morning (Jan. 30) on Naramata Rd. that knocked out power for over 1,000 residents.

Penticton RCMP are now asking for help identifying the car and the driver.

A small vehicle struck a power pole and according to witnesses the driver reversed and then took off toward Penticton.

FortisBC crews were notified to assist with the damage caused to the power pole, which likely resulted in many residents being without power.

Officers are hoping to identify the vehicle and driver, and believe it may have been a smaller Ford car.

If you witnessed this collision or have any information which may help, you’re encouraged to contact the Penticton RCMP, 250-492-4200, or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.
