The bike lane will cost taxpayers a little more now that Penticton has to include snow removal costs.
The city has budgeted $17,800 to pay for clearing snow from both sets of protected bike lanes in 2021/2022.
Council will review the annual snow removal budget which has now increased from $461,000 to $476,650 to include the 2.3 kilometres of newly installed bike lanes.
The completed two-way bike lanes extend from the intersection at Lakeshore Drive and Martin Street to the intersection at Fairview Road and Duncan Avenue, as well as a short section lane along Eckhardt Avenue, between Main Street and Winnipeg Street.
Snow removal costs are also going up this year because of five additional transit shelters and a new subdivision of Ridge Phase 2 and the Bluffs.
Major collector roads and main routes, steep grades, hilly terrain with high traffic volume, school zones, emergency routes to hospital and transit routes are given priority.
The complete snow and ice control policy for the winter will be presented to city council during its upcoming meeting Tuesday, Oct. 19.
