The Okanagan-Coquihalla NDP Riding Association is inviting residents to pay tribute to the popular politician at the Galleria Room of Shatford Centre, 760 Main St. in Penticton, on Aug. 27. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m., and residents can enter by the front doors or the southeast entrance of Recital Hall off the Penticton Secondary parking lot.

The service is expected to begin at 11 a.m.

Layton died Monday after succumbing to a second bout of cancer. His funeral is set to take place at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto.

Stephen Lewis, the former Ontario NDP leader and social justice activist, will deliver the main eulogy, and former former party leaders Alexa McDonough and Ed Broadbent and Canadian Ambassador to the U.S. Gary Doer are among those expected to be pallbearers.
