A collaborative group, representing four local non-profit organizations that advocate on behalf of seniors are hosting an all-candidates meeting on Oct. 3 at the Penticton Seniors’ Drop-In Centre starting at 1 p.m.
Around 300 people are expected to come out to the municipal candidates forum organized by the Penticton Seniors’ Drop-In Centre Society; the South Okanagan Branch of the National Association of Federal Retirees; the South Okanagan Seniors Wellness Society and One Sky Community Resources.
With more of Penticton’s population being 55+ years old, this demographic represents a significant segment of the constituency. While there will be many issues for the newly elected council to address, representatives from these organizations have identified four urgent municipal priorities for this age group:
· Affordable housing for seniors;
· Transportation;
· Safe neighbourhoods; and
· Food security.
A brochure developed by the partnership, which includes statistics relating to seniors in the community and highlights why these issues are important, will be distributed ahead of time to the candidates to help inform them of seniors’ issues and concerns. Copies will also be handed out to attendees at the All-Candidates meeting.
This event will be an opportunity for Penticton residents to gain some insight into how each candidate may use that knowledge, if elected, in their approach and decision-making on civic matters that impact seniors to effectively advance these priorities at the municipal level.

It is open to the general public and pre-registration is not required, but seating will be limited.
