Multiple scooter thefts
Multiple thefts of scooters last week in Penticton have RCMP discouraging the purchase of possibly stolen vehicles.
A scooter was reported stolen on the afternoon of June 15. A dark blue 2-15 Honda Gionno with the licence plate number: U87263 was taken from the 300 block of Ellis St.
A grey Honda Jazz scooter was stolen between noon and 2 p.m. on June 16 from the parking lot outside the Copper Mug Pub.
On June 17 Benzhou Saga gas-powered scooter was stolen while parked by Apex Optometry on the 400 block of Main Street. The B.C. license plate on the red scooter with a red cargo box behind the seat reads: W30388. The scooter was locked with a cable around the wheel and the handlebars.
“People steal things because they are able to make money off of it, which means there’s a lot of people in the public who buy stolen property,” said Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth with the Penticton RCMP.
Telltale signs include scratched off identification marks, or obviously recent and rushed paint jobs.
Bathrooms at Carmi destroyed again
Toilets and sinks were smashed to bits with a sledgehammer at the washrooms near the Carmi School baseball fields on June 13. This is the second such incident this year.
City lawnmower stolen
The shed at Lion’s Park was broken into and a Husqvarna riding lawnmower was stolen sometime overnight Monday.
The lawnmower is orange/grey with City of Penticton stickers on it and doesn’t have a blade, as it is used to rake the baseball diamond infields. Police said suspects were seen skulking around the area during a weekend baseball tournament.
Theft from Jamaican nationals
A break-in to a residence on Quebec Street on June 18 left Jamaican nationals without passports, work visas, cell phones and jewellery after the items were stolen from the five residents who are in Canada to work for the summer, police said.
The matter is still under investigation.
