RCMP surround house in Lake Country

The incident taking place at a house on Copper Hill Place

UPDATE: 5 p.m.

Copper Hill Place in Lake Country has been reopened following a two-hour closure related to a heavy police presence on the afternoon of April 16.

The house that appears to have been the focus of the incident is now being aired out. Doors and windows of the home are open and a fan has been placed at the front door of the home by the fire department.

UPDATE: 4:45 p.m.

Residents near Copper Hill Place are unable to leave or access their homes due to a police presence that started at approximately 3 p.m. on April 16.

The Lake Country RCMP, Emergency Response Team and Fire Department are stationed around a home on Copper Hill Place.

Cpl. Michael Gauthier with the Kelowna RCMP said the incident is contained to a single location on Copper Hill Place.

District of Lake Country has also issued a statement asking people to stay away from the area. The District said “there is no danger to the public, but individuals are asked to stay away from the area so operations can be conducted safely.”

This is the second police presence seen in the Central Okanagan on April 16.

Earlier in the day, a police presence was observed at a mobile home park in West Kelowna.

The West Kelowna RCMP and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team had executed a search warrant at a residence in the Westview Village Mobile Home Park after an individual threatened to cause harm to employees at a local business.

A police presence at a house in Lake Country has resulted in the closure of several streets near a residence on Copper Hill Place.

Cpl. Michael Gauthier with the Kelowna RCMP said the incident is contained to a single location on Copper Hill Place.

RCMP vehicles were first spotted in the residential area at approximately 3 p.m on April 16.

Cpl. Gauthier said the Lake Country RCMP is being assisted by the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT).

The ERT officers are wearing tactical gear and are carrying rifles.

Several undercover police vehicles are also on the scene. A police drone can be seen flying in the area.
