Efforts to reverse damage sustained during the spring 2017 high water event to the sheet pile wall along the Okanagan Lake waterfront is set to get underway Monday, April 23.
The work, west of the elevated walkway near the Peach, involves removing temporary cobble rock and concrete blocks and installing new sheet piles, a concrete cap and replacing sand. The city will also be undertaking some work under the elevated walkway and then adding rock armouring along the project frontage to protect the area from further erosion and damage.
Motorists are advised there will be one lane of alternating traffic along Lakeshore Drive and restricted access to the public walkway during the work period, which is expected to extend to May 18.. There will also be signage and fencing in place to direct pedestrians and traffic around the work area. As well, angle parking at the waterfront will be temporarily eliminated to facilitate storage of the materials and equipment operations for the project.
“The city apologises for any inconvenience that this project might present to the public,” said city engineer, Ian Chapman. “We are committed to maintaining this important infrastructure and the project will be executed as quickly as possible.”
