A wildfire was burning Thursday in the mountains above Upper Bench Road in Keremeos.

The B.C. Forest Service said late Thursday that 22 firefighters, one dozer and one water truck were deployed to the scene, and that the fire was burning in grass and sage and displaying agressive behaviour. Keremeos Volunteer firefighters are also assisting.

Residents of one home near the 10-hectare fire were placed on evacuation alert. The blaze was possibly triggered by sparks from a mower, and began around 7:30 p.m.

Information officers could not immediately be reached for comment Friday morning.
