UPDATE: The city is clarifying which facilities and activities will require proof of vaccination; originally the museum was included as requiring proof; that is not the case.
In order to use the Community Centre’s fitness room, participate in indoor fitness classes or indoor adult sports, indoor recreation, ticketed sports or concert or any other indoor gathering of over 50 people, proof of vaccination will be required.
Vaccine proof is not required for anyone 21 or under participating in indoor recreation or sport, coaches, volunteers or caregivers required for youth indoor recreational sport, aquatics programs and public swims, public skates not associated with group adult sport or anyone under 11 years of age.
Sept. 13 marks the start of mandatory proof of vaccination in B.C., and the city of Penticton is reminding residents to make sure they have their proof on them when they go out.
Facilities that require proof of vaccination include community centres, McLaren Arena and Cleland Theatre. Events include fitness rooms, fitness classes and drop-in sports.
City hall, city yards, libraries and bylaw services offices do not require proof of vaccination, nor do council meetings, public hearings or city engagement activities.
People will be able to use their vaccination status card until Sept. 27 when mandatory passports come into effect.
Starting on Oct. 24, proof of double vaccination status will be required to enter non-essential businesses.
People born in 2009 or earlier (ages 12 and up) will be required to show proof of at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine when entering certain non-essential service buildings. Anyone born in 2003 or later (18 and up) will also be required to provide a government-issued ID.
Facilities owned by the city but under lease agreements, such as the South Okanagan Events Centre and the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre will be dependant on the operators whether vaccination proof will be required or not.
Proof of vaccination will currently last until Jan. 31, 2022 and could be extended.
