In Loving Memory (1925-2024) ~
Dorothy (Munro) Van Steinburg passed away on January 8th, 2024. She was born in 1925 in Drake, Sask. In 1947 she met and married her "handsome" soldier Barney and moved to Penticton.
They bought an orchard on Kinney Ave. As the orchard didn't make enough money to support a family Dad drove the truck and was away on long hauls leaving Mom to look after the orchard, home and raise two kids.
After the orchard sold Mom worked for Bennett's hardware store and then for many years for the school district. She was a volunteer for the Peach Festival and The Jazz Festival and was a tireless worker for the Legion and still held exercise classes there till she was 90 years old!
She travelled the world and never lost her sense of fun and adventure. Mom loved Penticton and thought it was like living in paradise.
She is survived by daughter Donna (Richard) Suckling and son Allan (Debbie) Van Steinburg. Grandchildren Allan (Kirsten) Suckling, Treena (John) Driver, Ryan Van Steinburg, Aaron (Pricilla) Van Steinburg, Sarah (Lucas) Johnson and five great-grandkids.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
