In loving memory ~

A Life Filled with Good Friends, Good Food and Good Wine

Les was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba, and his childhood there gave him a love for fishing which made him a fisherman for life. Later, as a teenager, living with his Grandparents in Saskatchewan, he learned about farming and caring for animals as well as hunting - gopher tails were worth a nickel at the time! When his parents moved to Prince George, B.C., Les followed. Working at the railway he became part of a group of winemakers who ordered Zinfandel Grapes by the carload from California, and it was then he determined he would one day grow his own grapes. When Jan and Les moved to Okanagan Falls, he was able to make that dream come true, planting a vineyard in 1992. Les loved entertaining and it always started with greeting his guests with a glass of Merlot. After dinner, they often retired outdoors for a fire in Butcher's Holler and good conversation. He was an exceptional cook who searched grocery stores with a passion to find the exact ingredients for a fabulous dinner. He curated a grand collection of over 140 cookbooks from which he created and shared many delicious offerings. He recognized the good in everyone he knew and was critical of no one. He loved to share a story over food and wine and was known for his playfulness in costume attire at parties. His wife, Jan, loved him beyond measure and will be lost without him. He was predeceased by his sister Margaret and his daughter Ellen. He is survived by his son Todd, his son-in-law Robert, grandsons Kyle (Marthe), and Nick (Jillian), along with great-grandchildren Vance, Arianna, Dominic and Francesca. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and remembered for his immense spirit, strength and kindness.

A Celebration of Life will be held in early Spring and everyone is welcome.
