Maria Idalina Lopes Tome passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 24, 2018 at the age of 84 years.  She is remembered and sadly missed by her loving husband, Manuel, and their dog Wynnie, and their children Victor (Sandra) of Hope BC, Raul (Colleen) of Edmonton AB, Sylvia Henniger (Dan) of Summerland BC, and Phillip (Wendy) of Keremeos BC, their grandchildren Norman Hunter (Andrea) of Pitt Meadows BC, Daniel Henniger of Summerland BC, Patricia Henniger (Chris) of  Surrey BC, Johnathan Tome (Breonna) of Penticton BC, Ella Tillotson-Tome of Edmonton AB, and Great-grandchildren Ashlee Hunter and Carys Hunter of Pitt Meadows BC, as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada and Portugal.  

She is sadly predeceased by her grandson Justin Hunter of Hope BC, and her sister Maria da Guia Hipolito of Penticton BC, her parents and sister in Portugal. Born in Apulia, Portugal, Maria Idalina moved to Canada in 1957 to join her husband in Kitimat BC. After a few years in Prince Rupert, BC, they eventually settled in Penticton in 1968 where they bought and ran a 10 acre orchard for many years, and raised their family of 4.

She was very proud to become a Canadian Citizen in 1990. Maria Idalina was never happier than to have her whole family for long dinners, and multiple course desserts, which she didn't eat herself.  

She will be remembered for her sense of humour, kindness and generosity, and her love of animals. The family would like to thank Dr. Elizabeth Watters, Dr. Niall Davidson, Dr. Chris Little, and the nurses and staff of SP3 of the Penticton Regional Hospital for their care and compassion.

Prayer service will take place on May 30, 2018 at 7pm at St. Ann's Church. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, May 31 at 10 am, at St. Ann's Church, 1296 Main St, Penticton BC, with Father Rex Velmonte officiating. Burial at Lakeview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the South Okanagan Similkameen Foundation for the new hospital care tower.
